Really Useful Stuff

Hello, totswap bloggers. As a mother of two I thought I would share some thoughts on useful things to have when you child is little.

First, what stroller? personally I am a big fan of McClaren - they are very portable, good range (and price range), parts are easy to find (try your bicycle shop if you need a new wheel etc). The new XLR takes a car seat so is usable for even a newborn - very handy to not have to buy a full recline for the newbie, then a bigger stroller for the toddler. The bugaboo is lovely, looks very comfortable for both newbie and older child and I see so many around they must have merit. But the price!!! and are they portable on the subway or in the back of a taxi???

Disposable changing pads on a roll! PIBS

This is a product that we found indispensable when our daughter was an infant.

Nevermind the changing table, change them ANYWHERE with these disposable paper on one side, coated on the other side, changing pads. They come on a roll, and are definitely worth the price! They’re sturdy enough to reuse when not soiled or wet and have saved me a LOT of laundry, I’m sure.

Here’s a link, though I’m not vouching for the price. You may be able to find them cheaper also at “hard to find brands.com”

Portable Car Seat at last!

Have you ever traveled through airports and seen poor parents lugging their child’s car seat in a “bag” or using a “backpack strap” — and carrying the child at the same time? Are they kidding? Do you know how much all this weighs? One fantastic product we have found, and I mean ‘people stop me in the streets exclaiming “where did you get that thing?” greatness’, is a “Go Go Babyz” or “Go Go Kidz” wheel attachment to your car seat (gogobabyz.com). It attaches to the Britax car seats, which is a common and “best” car seat around, and adds wheels to it so you can push your child around. It also comes off easily when you put your car seat in the car or on the plane (or you can keep it on). One bad thing about it is that turning is not very good at sharp corners but we really love it overall. Please! You have enough to lug around when traveling.

Dining Made Clean!

One of the most frequently-used baby products we own is a little rubber mat called Tiny Diner Portable Placemat that sticks firmly to table surfaces with suction cups. A little spill-catcher hangs off the edge of the table to capture food that escapes little hands, so they have a second chance at eating it! Pair that with a bib that has a food catcher and your kid might actually end his/her meal with clean clothes!

Although we do use it everyday at home, it’s extra useful for eating out at restaurants. It rolls up small to fit into your diaper bag and when you lay it out at the restaurant, you know it’s going to be a nice clean area on which to put food. No more worrying about yucky table surfaces or how to get your baby to eat off a plate that may experimentally drop off the table at any moment. Since it’s soft rubber (using FDA-approved materials), they can bang their little spoon as much as they want without sounding like a construction site.
